The Rose Street Karate Club’s is the 4th club to come on stream from the Sheppey Karate Clubs Group. The club opened on the 8th October 2014 with over 29 Students currently enrolled and bases itself as an after-school-activity for the children of the Rose Street Primary School, Rose Street, Sheerness Kent ME12 1AW. The clubs chief instructor is Arthur Wallace 7th Dan a very experienced instructor. Sensei Wallace was responsible for introducing karate to Sheppey and opened his first Dojo in May 1974. He was awarded his 7th Dan in 2014 by the KSKC under the auspices of the English Karate Governing Board. He is also a 1st Dan black belt in Judo (AJA), and adept with Kobudo (weaponry) I.e. Sai (short swords) and Rokushu-bo (6 ft staff).

Its four sister clubs are the St Clements Club in Warden Bay, St Georges Club in Minster-on-sea, Thistle Hill and Sheppey Karate Club (Head Dojo) in Sheerness. The club has produced over 136 black belt students, some of which are now 5th Dan Instructors. Sensei is assisted by his wife Frances 5th Dan, Stephanie Cornford 3rd Dan and several other black belt assistant instructors, all of whom are registered with the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs. The Sheppey clubs primary objective is to produce good quality Black Belts, by balancing the training needs of the student by using both traditional and modern methods of teaching.

General information

ORGANIZATION: The Rose Street Karate Club practices the style of karate known as Shotokan. We are members of the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs and affiliated to the Sport England Council. There is a term by term subscription which is paid in advance. The classes are held every Wednesday classes start at 3.20pm to 4.20pm in the school main activity hall. Members have automatic membership of its sister club in Sheerness and can train, free-of-charge on the Mondays & Thursdays in addition to the regular Wednesday slot.
