The Club

The Thistle Hill Karate Club’s is the 5th club to come on stream from the Sheppey Karate Clubs Group.  The club opened in January 2016 has on average over 27 plus members and bases itself as an after-school-activity for the children of the Thistle Hill Academy, Aspen Drive, Minster–on-Sea, Sheerness Kent ME12 3UD.

The club’s chief instructor is Arthur Wallace 7th Dan, a very experienced instructor.  Sensei Wallace was responsible for introducing karate to the Island and opened his first Dojo in May 1974.  He was awarded his 7th Dan in December 2014 by the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs grading panel. He is also a 1st Dan black belt in Judo (AJA), and adept with Kobudo (weaponry) I.e. Sai (short swords) and Rokushu-bo (6 ft staff).

It has four sister After-School clubs i.e. St Clements, in Warden Bay, St Georges, in Minster Village, Rose Street, in Sheerness and the Sheppey Karate Club (Head Dojo) based at the Sheppey Leisure Centre.  The clubs have produced over 136 black belt students, some of which are now 5th Dan Instructors. Sensei is assisted by his wife Frances 5th Dan, Stephanie Cornford 3rd Dan and several other black belt assistant instructors, all of whom are registered with the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs.  The Sheppey club’s primary objective is to produce good quality Black Belts, by balancing the training needs of the student by using both traditional and modern methods of teaching.
