The Club

The St Clements Karate Club’s is the 2nd SKC club to come on line and has now been operating since May 2012.  The club has on a average over 20 members and bases itself as an after school activity for the children of the St Clements School, Leysdown Road, Leysdown–on-Sea, Sheerness Kent ME12 4AB.  The clubs chief instructor is Arthur Wallace 7th Dan a very experienced instructor.  Sensei Wallace was responsible for introducing karate to Sheppey and opened his first Dojo in May 1974.  He was awarded his 7th Dan in 2014 by the KSKC under the auspices of the English Karate Governing Board. He is also a 1st Dan black belt in Judo (AJA), and adept with Kobudo (weaponry) I.e. Sai (short swords) and Rokushu-bo (6 ft staff).

Its sister club the Sheppey Karate Club has produced over 125 black belt students, some of which are now 5th Dan Instructors. Sensei is assisted by his wife Frances 5th Dan, Stephanie Cornford 3rd Dan and several other black belt assistant instructors, all of whom are registered with the Kent Shotokan Karate Clubs. Both Frances and Arthur’s children (Nathan, Luke and Claire) are all black belts and began their training from a very early age. They believe that the physical and mental discipline that karate has taught them, has directly contributed to their academic development and well being.  Many parents have asked Arthur and Frances what motivates them to spend so much time and energy teaching children. Their answer is simple “Early on we decided what kind of karate club we would like to run.

Our primary objective was to produce over a hundred good quality Black Belts, a strategy underpinned by following several aims, namely; create a friendly atmosphere where families would feel safe training together.  Produce a strict but fair code of conduct for all its members and Balance the training needs between traditional and modern methods of teaching.  The greatest compliment that Arthur and Frances have had is to see the sons and daughters of their original students following the footsteps of their parents and begin training at the Sheppey Dojo.
